Facilities and Transport

Stavros Villa-Studios & Apartments are in a secluded position about 1km from the centre of Gerani. From Gerani, the lively and historic Venetian harbour of Chania is only 20 minutes by car or bus and the Minoan palace of Knossos is 2 hours by car or coach excursion.

There are traditional villages and secluded spots to explore in the area around Gerani and Chania. Buses pass through Gerani every 20-30 minutes for Chania (via the coastal villages of Platanias, Agia Marina, Stalos), but you can also hire mountain bikes, mopeds or a car locally.

The local bus will take you to Platanias, a nearby small town, busy in the summer with shops of interest to tourists (arts, crafts and souvenirs), as well as cafes, restaurants, small clothes shops and a supermarket where you can mix and shop with the locals.

Water sports are provided in Agia Marina (two villages along from Gerani) equally accessible by bus. A water park and horse-riding school can be accessed by car or taxi about half an hour away. For older children and adults, there is plenty of nature around the studios - long walks in the immediate area take you through bamboo plantations, olive and orange groves, and of course along the shoreline. In spring there is a choice of walking tours nearby.

15 km east of Gerani is Chania Town with its 400 year old Venetian harbour and narrow back streets seemingly from a Shakespeare set. It bustles with restaurants, water-front cafes, markets, art and jewellery shops, disused mosques, a synagogue and several churches. Buses run regularly from Gerani.

There are two mini stores only a few minutes' stroll away from Stavros Villa-Studios & Apartments, and we have our own exchange facility and taverna/restaurant where mineral water, soft and alcoholic drinks can be bought at any time. The taverna (cafe and restaurant) is open all day until 11pm. Down the same lane are some other tavernas.
